Lessons in Shipping

When we started Parties With a Pop, the thought of shipping cake pops was so overwhelming that we decided to just stick to local orders. After about three days of our site being live, we realized we needed to figure out shipping...and quickly. We had orders pouring in from Florida, Chicago, Nebraska, New York - how could we say no? After a few experimental shipments, a LOT of bubble wrap, and a few silent prayers, we decided to take on long-distance orders.

This past week really gave us a lesson in shipping do's and dont's  DO use as much bubble wrap and tissue paper that can possibly fit in the box. DON'T go to the post office on President's Day and expect it to be open. DO ship with an estimated delivery date that ensures the pops will be there in time, with two days to spare. DON'T trust that "estimated delivery date."

Oh. My. Goodness. We both aged 17 years and were on the brink of giving up when the nasty storms from last week delayed two huge shipments for parties this past Saturday.

If those cute Curious George's and the 100 beautiful black and fuschia pops were missing, life was sure to be over. Saturday morning was spent on the phone with post offices in Nebraska and Illinois, and by some sweet, lovely miracle, both shipments arrived - in perfect condition- for the parties that day. Giant business catastrophe #1 avoided. We are SO glad that our shipments made it on time, and we hope the first birthday party and the anniversary party were just perfect.
